Ladies Football Update 29/09.

Everyone at Clonakilty Ladies Gaelic Football Club would like to congratulate the Cork Senior Ladies and management whose incredible record continued yesterday at Croke Park when they snatched victory from a great Dublin team in the dying minutes.  Special congratulations go to our own Martina O’Brien who played in goal and did herself, her county and her club proud on the day.  It was an incredible game of football and just when we all thought it was not going to be their day, the Rebelettes dug deep and went from 10 points down with 15 minutes to go, to scoring 2-7 and winning by the narrowest of margins.  It was an incredible comeback and made us all proud to be part of ladies football and especially Cork.  Well done again to all concerned and especially to Martina, you are a great ambassador for our club and we all wish you continued success.

The Clonakilty Ladies Football Club & Ahamilla are proud to host the Cork Senior Ladies Football panel,  led by our own Martina O'Brien who will train on Sunday morning at 11.00am in Ahamilla.  Come along and support and meet these amazing ladies who are contesting their 9th All-Ireland Final in a row on Sunday 27th in Croke Park.  Good luck to all involved.

The Club would like to wish the U16 girls, trainers and mentors the very best of luck in the County Semi-Final on Friday 19th @ 6.30pm in Redmonds Pitch when they take on Kanturk.  Best of luck girls

The U16 girls played Na Piarsaigh on September 13 in Ahamilla in the county quarter final winning on a scoreline 3-14 to 0-04. This was by far Clon’s best performance of the year with every player from 1 to 20 giving their all on the day.  There were excellent displays all round beginning with Eabha Walsh in goal giving an exhibition of kicking to set up many of our attacks. Our defence was well marshalled by Captain Aoife Barry with great assistance from Anna McCarthy, Sue Downey, Katie O`Connor, Lauren A. O`Sullivan & Meabh Deasy. The towering figures of Hollie O`Sullivan & Ciara Ryan dominated midfield & as the score suggests our forwards were on fire with Leanne Calnan giving a wonderful display of goal scoring and point taking, ably assisted by Orla Lowney, Lauren S.O`Sullivan and the impressive Madelyn Hughes on the wing. All roads lead to a county semi final on September 20th against Kanturk.  Time and venue to be confirmed when knows.  The U8s and U10s went to Passage West on Saturday to compete in a blitz and had a very successful day.  These girls have had a great year, huge numbers of girls training and everyone having lots of fun which is the main objective at this age.  . Date for the Diary: Halloween Disco on Friday 28th November

Clonakilty Senior Ladies bowed out of the County Senior B championship on Sunday evening (Sept 7th) in Kilmurry when they were beaten in the semi final by Donoughmore. A Donoughmore goal after 12 minutes proved decisive in the first half and Clon were unable to bridge the gap and went in at half time trailing 1-05 to 0-04. The second half took on a similar pattern with Clon having an equal amount of possession but always seemed to be faced by a black wall of Donoughmore defenders. Donoughmore found their scores a bit easier to come by and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-08. Martina O’Brien gave her usual solid performance in goal and all 6 backs defended stoutly with Rebecca McAree having one of her best outings yet in a Clon jersey. The O’Leary sisters worked hard in midfield and the forwards with Beulah McManus giving a wholehearted effort, toiled hard without always having success. Clon still have to defend their West Cork Senior title which should be coming up shortly.  Panel: Martina O’Brien, Aileen McCarthy, Carol-Anne O’Donovan (Capt), Rebecca McAree, Niamh Deasy, Sinead O’Neill (0-01), Susie Forristal, Claire O’Leary (0-01), Aine O’Leary (0-01), Beulah McManus (0-01), Jenny Quinn, Ciara Ryan (0-01), Louise Collins, Ciara McCarthy, Maura O’Brien (0-03) 0-01 free, Rosemary Dullea, Caroline Dullea, Aoife Barry, Hollie O’Sullivan, Ellen Hayes, Lydia Kenny, Ailbhe Dowling, Juanita Brennan, Rebecca O’Sullivan, Orla Deasy Dunne, Leanne Calnan.
