Clonakilty Junior Ladies opened their league campaign on Saturday last (Mar 16th) with a good victory over Tadgh McCarthaighs. Clon found the net three times in the first 10 minutes courtesy of Jamie O’Regan, Lydia Kenny and Niamh O’Donovan. This great start plus a couple of fine points from Hollie Hayes enabled the team to play some very good football and with all the backs playing well as a defensive unit, Clon led 3-04 to 0-01 at half time. Fine displays by Aoife O’Neill, Jennifer White and the tenacious Faye Langley was the launch pad for further scores in the second half. Clon added 2 more goals from the accurate Ellen Hall and Caroline Dullea who also popped up with an excellent point from an acute angle. With Rosemary Dullea and Grace McManus working hard at midfield Clon ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-05 to 0-01. This was a good display to start the season and it was particularly encouraging to see the younger players showing up so well.
