The A team played their first match for some time last week against Bishopstown in a friendly and put in a super shift. They won quite comfortably. They have to play against Bantry in a league match on Monday coming (16th) in Bantry. These games are welcome as the Championship quarter final v Youghal has been fixed for Monday 23rd (no venue yet). The winners will be out soon after against the winners of  Valley Rovers v Wolfe Tones. A word of congratulations to Brendan & Bridget Walsh on the arrival of their 1st baby, Dylan.

The B team play against Mizen Rovers in  Goleen next Tuesday night in a league match. We were awarded the points for the match against Kilbrittain that was called off last week because they couldn’t field a team. The lads have done very well so far.

This team have a match against Bandon to play in the League, of which they sit on top of at present. Great work by Jim, Tommy, Fintan & Co. They are down to play semi final of championship v St Brogans at the end of July. I’m not sure if the league game against the same team will double up with that game. It is scheduled around the same time.

Saturday August 18th is the provisional date for Championship match Round 1 v Mayfield. Billy and Gerry have some very good results so far in the league. They have 2 big league games in the next couple of weeks against Charleville and Ross. 2 wins would see them right in the mix.

Under 13 Football

Noel and Mike managed to arrange a match against Macroom lately which was very welcome. They put in a very good performance and won well. This team has unfortunately been starved of games because of lack of numbers in their league. They have more games against Ross and Dunmanway to come. If they can win them, they will qualify for play offs. It would be great for the young lads to achieve this.

No league table to hand.

Under 13 Hurling

This is a very evenly matched league. Clon’s only loss was by only 4 pts to Dunmanway in a tight match. Clon have a bye into the semi final of the championship which starts in early August. They will play the winners of Kilbree and Sam Maguires. Well done Gerdy, Gerry, Donie and Co.

Under 12 Football

The under 12 A team has done very well so far. The table below doesn’t include a great win the boys had on Thursday night last against the unbeaten Urhan team. It was a fantastic game with Clon just pulling through in the end. Stiofan is a very welcome addition to our underage coaching team and is ably assisted by Tom and Tim. Keep up the great work lads. Well done.

The under 12 B team has improved incredibly since the start of the year and in particular, the match against Ross during the week emphasised this. Our lads went down in a close game, but last year they were beaten by 20 points by the same team. They are in a tough league because all members of this team are under 11 and have to play against u12 first teams in most of their games. Nevertheless John and Aidan are doing sterling work and we should see the benefits of it next year when they are playing their own age group. There are some great little players in this team.

The under 12 hurlers are unbeaten in their league so far. Gerdy & Co. Are doing a great job with these lads too. I have seen most of their matches and the game against Dunmanway was a cracker with a great finish to the game sending it Clon’s way. Looking good for the rest of the year.

Under 10 Football (u9s and u10s)

This group is headed up by Sean Daly who has built a great team of coaches and mentors. Willie, Steve, Tim and Maurice are doing trojan work with these lads. They have played 5 out of their 6 league matches against Bantry, Gabriel Og, Newcstown, Ross and Bandon. The matches have been very close in most cases except for the defeat to Gab Rangers that Sean blames on Willie being in charge that night (how did he win a county medal?).Seriously though, well done to all involved. No table is kept at this age which is probably the right thing really. The lads have one more league game to come and have a number of u10 blitz competitions coming up in the next few weeks along the lines of the u8 hurling one held in Clon last week. Sean tells me that the Annual Street league u10 competition will be staged later in the year again. This is a great tournament and we all look forward to the excitement of the final night with great anticipation.

Under 10 Hurling

Donal McCarthy heads up this group and we thank him and his team (esp Eileen) for all their hard work. I only saw one of their games so far but it was great fun and they did very well in it. There are 8 teams in their league group but again no table is available because results aren’t kept officially. There are some blitz tournaments on the way for this team too.

Under 7&8 football

Kevin O’Donovan, the GAA West Cork coach took training the other night and did a great job. Thanks to Kevin. This group train on Thursday evenings and it is a  joy to go out to see them in action. There is a big u8 blitz coming up in Dunmanway so best wishes to all involved.

Under 7&8s hurling

Tommy is back from his travels and this group continue to meet on Saturday mornings. So far Tommy has been happy with the number of parents helping out. While away, I believe Kevin O’Donovan stood in for Tommy on occasion. Thanks again to him. Blitz coming up for them too.

U14 Hurling championship Final (15/07/2012)

Clonakilty 4-5, Rosscarbery 2-6
The under 14 hurlers of Clonakilty and Rosscarbery served up a thrilling game in this 2012 West Region final on Sunday evening last, July 15th, at the well prepared Sam Maguire Park in Dunmanway.

U14 Hurling Championship (15/07/12)

Clonakilty won the West Region U14 B Hurling title on Sunday 15th July by defeating Rosscarbery on a score of 4-6 to 2-6 in a thrilling final. Congratulations to all.

U 14 Hurling

Well done to Clonakilty U 14 Hurlers who have qualified for the West Cork final as a result of a hard fought win over Kilbree on Tuesday night, July 3rd.  The final score was 3-7 to 1-7.

Under 8 Hurling Coaching

Hurling Coaching for boys born in 2004, 2005 and 2006 takes place every SATURDAY MORNING 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. We are delighted with the numbers turning out and with the help from the parents.

However, we would really like to get help from some experienced hurling mentors and adult players so that the large numbers can be divided into smaller, more manageable groups. You don't have to commit to every Saturday, once a month would do fine. We need experienced hurlers to teach the kids the very basic skills.

Contact Tom Lyons 0876425180 if you are willing to help out.
