U.21 team and seniors beaten.
It was a disappointing weekend for the club on the playing pitches.
U.21 Football Championship
The U.21 football team played Castlehaven in the semi-final of the championship on Saturday in Ross and were beaten my 1-14 to 1-9. A bigger, stronger Haven dominated the first half but a great goal from Seán White kept Clon in touch. Clon trailed by 1-5 to 1-3 at the break, with Brian Hurley doing all the haven scoring. Clon trailed by four points in the third quarter but a big improvement saw them cutting the lead to a single point with ten minutes remaining. They were looking likely winners then butan injury to midfielder, Thomas Clancy, halted the momentum and in the closing minutes the Haven pulled away to win by 1-14 to 1-9.
Clon fielded a very young side and were very competitive which gives great hope for next season. Well done to all players and mentors.
The senior football team played Ballingeary in the league in Ahamilla on Sunday and the result was a disappoint loss by a single point, 0-11 to 0-10. This was a game Clon should have won and they actually led by a point in the 60th minute but conceded two points in injury time. Against the strong breeze Clon did well in the first quarter to be level at 0-3 each. They then fell behind in the second quarter to trail by two points at half time, 0-6 to 0-4. Within five minutes of the restart they had taken the lead with three points but failed to pull away, the sides being level three times before Clon lost the game in injury time.
